Works by Hisui |
Hisui brand by designer Hiroko Itoh. The theme of the spring/summer collection for 2009 was "Physical." As one of the means for expressing the image, tubular lace strings were used. They were added to simple bare-top dresses, and were very effective as a decorative accent.
The manufacturer is Katsumi Industry, the owner of torsion lace machines. New aspects are added to the lace by applying multiple colors and multiple materials to the lace, and knitting up with full originality, and making patchwork fabrics.
The partners met several years ago. Ms Itoh found torsion lace at CBF, and thought it cute. Tanimoto of Katsumi thought it interesting to work with Hisui only if the directions are matched. Both became conscious of each other. This time, they collaborated for the autumn/winter collection. The work was highly reputed, and they have joined again for next year's spring/summer collection.
Today, the market is filled with mass-produced look-alike products, but needs for possessing something "original" are not few. Katsumi's lace makes it possible to create something original from the yarn. Ms Itoh was interested. "It's great. Our requests are arranged and created from existing materials. Whatever we may ask, we get a right answer from Katsumi."
Tanimoto replies. "When we receive new requests, we try to create something new. In that sense, we play catch with the designers.
Working is analog. We make no progress without requests from designers."This show features long dresses of metallic tone lace combined with patchwork fabric. A work of mutual stimulation by collaboration is a must to see. |
