Introduction to brands
We are delighted to showcase the brand designers participating in the professional section of the show and share their enthusiasm and creative potential for how pigskin materials can be used.
MIDDLA
Designer: ohal ando
This will be my second occasion to work with pigskin materials after a previous trial in 2015. Back then, I remember designing so-called ‘showpiece’ items without pinpointing specific features since it was the first time such materials in my collection. Now, however, I think all aspects around pigskin have evolved, including processing, as has MIDDLA. So I can’t wait to get started creating items that highlight its charm and participate in the show. |

Re:quaL≡
Designer: Tetsuya Doi
At RequaL≡, we find pigskin materials particularly enticing, given the range of features and textures no other fabrics can match. Just as important is the scope for industry production; harnessing a wealth of regenerative possibilities and conserving resources, while retaining a positive attitude and a mindset of sustainability. These reflect the key issues in industries across the board in recent years.
On this occasion, we intend to develop while reinventing our approach and leveraging the archive, including works to date, while partly launching a new collection. We expect the Tokyo-based pigskin industry to further evolve; going from strength to strength and paving the way for new value. |

tactor
Designer: Nayuko Yamamoto
For me, working on pigskin material has always been the starting point. I consider it a strong, high-quality and very special medium, directly obtained from nature, unlike other apparel applications. Already now, the thought of how I can transform such new materials into fashion objects ‘tactor’-style excites me immensely. I am fascinated, for example, to look into silhouettes, breathability, the surface feel, their weight, how they feel on the skin and - above all – the scope of processing and finishing such unique materials provide.
I would like to take the initial opportunity to handle the material as a designer and nurture my creation with the utmost care as ‘a special piece resonating with all five senses’, after getting a handle on all its features and embracing our customers’ mindset and vision.
At the same time, tactor hopes to gain insights into long-term product and fabric development while remaining ahead of the curve on culture and brand stories as a brand closely related to Tokyo. |
