INDEX[1] < JFW-JC2024 / PTJ2024AW > to be held in Tokyo in November ! Introduction to exhibitors at Premium Textile Japan 2024A/W

The < Premium Textile Japan (PTJ) 2024 Autumn/Winter >, organised by the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFW), will take place from October 31 to November 1 at the Tokyo International Forum in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward, in Hall E and the Lobby Gallery. (This event will also be held concurrently with JFW JAPAN CREATION 2024).

At the time of writing, the apparel industry is gradually emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic and showing signs of recovery. The PTJ2024 Autumn/Winter exhibition will feature 71 companies (over a space covering 105.5 booths). The special <What’s Next> program, acclaimed during the PTJ exhibition in May, is set to go from strength to strength as part of efforts to showcase the appeal of upcoming popular textiles. Here are some selected PTJ exhibitors.

TAIYO SEN-I CO., LTD. <A-07> *New exhibitor

3000 pcs. available in stock at all times

A new exhibitor at PTJ, TAIYO SEN-I CO., keeps around 3,000 items in stock, both domestically and internationally, enabling delivery from a single roll. With a finger on the pulse of the increasingly diverse apparel market, they aim to acquire new customers while leveraging their strengths.

On this occasion, they will be presenting a cotton COOLMAX 40-gauge seed-stitched fabric. This combines 60/1 fine-count cotton, with COOLMAX 50d/2 for a super high-gauge seed-stitch fabric balancing luxury and functionality. It has also been liquid-ammonia processed to enhance both the texture and physical stability. A 100% cotton non-iron shirt fabric will also be available, with wrinkle resistance outperforming traditional dress shirts. In fact, it achieves a wrinkle reduction rate of 90% (after washing), despite being 100% cotton.

NAKATAKA KEORI CO., LTD. <A-66> *New exhibitor

Promoting unrivalled uniqueness

NAKATAKA KEORI CO., LTD. is also making its debut at PTJ as part of efforts to explore new sales channels, approach different industries and expand into overseas markets. The company specialises in small-batch production of yarn-dyed products and design materials and handles wide-ranging textiles, including woven, knit and raschel fabrics.

Among their highlights is “Wool Jacquard Milled Stretch” While milled wool jacquard at first glance, it actually uses twisted yarns of wool spun and stretch yarns and features firm stretchability, despite its tight appearance. “Rayon Stretch Silvic” also comes with a special resin finish, for a high-resilience fabric. Solo’s stretch, plus high-resilience processing, is key to the clean and smart silhouette. “Sequined Mesh” is created using a rare raschel knitting machine. And despite the challenge of knitting sequins together, the slow-paced rachel knitting machine makes it possible, for a unique and differentiated end material.

ARTEX CO., LTD. <C-58>

Strong design originality

ARTEX CO., LTD. participated in the “What’s Next” project at the PTJ May event with their “Uneven Print” to great acclaim. They commented on the strong interest from many customers in their business, which brought home to them the importance of taking on challenges. The print fabric - a particular favourite - proved a winner, with a unique design and handcrafted feel amid ongoing digitalization. Once again, this ‘Uneven Print’ is set to take centre stage in the upcoming show. On this occasion, they have incorporated 3D printing techniques to give the patterns depth via a handcrafted approach. This textured effect was even achieved without using traditional shrinkage fabrics in an effort to minimise industrial waste.

They also developed the “Shantung Burn-out Print” by applying burn-out processing to shantung fabric and combining it with pigment printing for a three-dimensional textured appearance. The “Satin Burn-out Print” is another product featuring this 3D feel by applying burn-out processing to a shiny satin fabric, topped off with striped printing for a unique and luxurious touch.

UNI TEXTILE CO., LTD. <B-04>

Committed to Japan-made products

UNI TEXTILE CO., LTD. also participated in the “What’s Next” project in May with their “Stretch Seersucker”, which won first prize as the most popular fabric chosen by visitors. This has fuelled continuing inquiries and interest in this fabric, which is currently used in various apparel applications. The “Made in Japan” aspect of their textiles is one thing for buyers to keep top of mind, alongside close collaboration with domestic partner factories, which paves the way for faster processing and small-batch production. Thanks to this approach, 40,000 or so items are always in stock.

This upcoming event will see them showcase a sustainable fabric using CHORI’s recycled polyester, “ECO BLUER”; a lightweight corduroy with knitted pile that resists shedding. They have also developed a quilted jacquard with a matelassé texture by using thick yarns in the weft for a three-dimensional appearance. The fabric has also been plumped up for a softer and warmer appearance.

Their Liberty print on 30/1 spun lawn is a natural/cotton-like fabric using opaque spun polyester yarn, with moderate thickness and texture and a staple suitable for all items.

MIZOROGI & CO., LTD. <C-53>

Fusing embroidery and print

Mizorogi exhibited their “Feather Print Embroidery” at the “What’s Next” project in May. This unique combination of soft feather textures and shiny embroidery, achieved by layering print on top of lame embroidery, was chosen as the second most popular item. And despite the lack of direct orders to date, they are convinced that their technique of merging embroidery and print will eventually pay off.

Highlights for the upcoming edition include a thick wool fabric with ring-patterned embroidery and glossy threads (featuring a laser cut to create open rings.) There will also be a fusion of embroidery and print; organza with embroidered flowers and occasional fabric-looking prints. Rounding things off is a tweed-like fabric with embroidered tulle using three types of threads: lamé, wooly, and chenille. The aim will be introduce these new pieces to existing customers while also expanding their customer base.
