The < Premium Textile Japan (PTJ) Spring/Summer 2023 > event, organised by JFW (Japan Fashion Week Organization), will be held from May 25-26 at the Tokyo International Forum / Exhibition Hall E-1 and is set to host 71 exhibitors, three of whom new, occupying 92 booths on this occasion.

We are also delighted to announce that the well-reputed projects; < JFW Sustainability Project > and < JFW Textile Online Salon > will continue as ongoing initiatives.

COVID-19 has had a considerable impact on the textile industry. Compounding this, many exhibitors cite their main concern as ‘the recent rise in raw material costs.’ Businesses are pondering whether to pass on product price increases amid near-monthly cost hikes due to the soaring cost of naphtha. The same applies to natural fibres, which are severely affected by ever-costlier raw materials. Amid such challenges, certain exhibitors are still striving to enhance the cultivation of new customers by rolling out new products as follows:

SENDA CO., LTD. <B-46>

Meeting the demand for outerwear and outdoor items just as proficiently

SENDA is a trading company specialising in fabrics applied for general fashion goods, including bags and accessories. They excel when it comes to proposing fabrics that are tailored to the image of each client, leveraging their expertise in the field. Their repertoire also includes special orders, from secondary processing categories and adjustable thickness and texture based on existing textiles up to prints and embroidery for fashions and occasions of all kinds.

One of their exhibits, vintage taffeta, is water-repellent and perfect for use when hiking and outdoors, made with environmentally-friendly 100%-recycled nylon. They are currently developing apparel products while prioritising product and brand consistency and using the same fabrics applied for bags/pouches.

Another highlight - Swim Tech - is a highly stretchable wetsuit-like fabric, bonded with rubber between fabrics for extra cushioning and usable in a wealth of end products like bags, shoes or even industrial materials. Flame-retardant canvas No. 8 blends cotton and acrylic with flame-retardant acrylic fibres and is newly developed to meet the demand for outerwear and outdoor items, e.g. tote bags for camping and bags for firewood.

TAKEMI CLOTH CO., LTD. <A-6>

Sun-dried textiles

TAKEMI CLOTH, a specialist linen textiler, has been working on this fabric since 1960, despite being headquartered in Hamamatsu, which is better known for its cotton textiles. Thanks to direct weaving and dyeing connections, they can offer products under optimal conditions in terms of delivery time and price range. They will join PTJ in the hope of acquiring clients, despite the recent surge in linen yarn prices.

Their key focus this time round is on organic sun-dried cotton products. As the name suggests, this means drying fabrics hand-dyed by craftsmen under the abundant sunlight and strong dry wind, specific to the Enshu region, which consequently gives a unique tonality and crease effect. Among the showcased samples: an ultimate organic linen fabric using the same grey fabric and finished without any auxiliary agents. And just as appealing, a sun-dried hemp, made without any extra heavy oil and via continuous dyeing to reduce water usage by 40% as well as the ever-hard-to-weave linen jacquard in a range of new designs and also a sun-dried finish. Their motto is to produce only environmentally aware products with a sun-dried finish and maximising their natural power as a unique feature.

MIZOROGI & CO., LTD. <C-59>

A stand-out lace specialist

Two pillars of MIZOROGI’s business are their wide network and insights in abundance. Their priority in joining the fair on this occasion is to further cultivate new customers and collect the information they need. A lace specialist, the company does it all in house - from designing and planning, product development, production, processing and sales. The sales department relies on a global staff for swift and service-centric work by cutting out trading middlemen and dealing directly with overseas clients.

On this occasion, they will showcase < Fantastic Embroidery >; with brilliant colour application and uncompromising novelty in every detail. On a triple axis of ‘modern, elegant and comfortable’, they make products special with subtle and playful glitter by combining laser cuts and pattern-matching prints, served up seamlessly with classical embroidery from their archive. The < Forster Rohner2023SS > collection will feature a total of four themes on show: #1Pack for Love Story #2Search for Beauty #3Milk & Honey and #4History revisited.

Conversely, another highlight - < Timeless lace > - features the latest warp knitting machine by Karl Mayer, using raw materials of organic cotton and recycled polyester and nylon and sustainable production processes; (via a made-to-order system to streamline production) and an eco-friendly vegetable-dyeing finishing technique.

YAMAZAKI TEXTILE CO., LTD. <A-28>

Dealing with quick delivery system

YAMAZAKI TEXTILE serves customers that depend on deliveries at the double by stocking grey fabrics at their own risk. Their objective in joining PTJ is to ‘cultivate new customers’. Located in the Hamamatsu textile region, they have been developing premium textiles that centre on fine-count, hard-twisted and high-density cotton. Fabrics can be purchased by the roll and they also handle post-processed stockpile fabrics in collaboration with dyeing factories in textile regions elsewhere.

Highlights include: < Trinity Smart Cotton >; a fabric blending triacetate, hard-twisted gas voile and functional polyester, retaining a delicate texture. Ring-dyed hard-twisted gas voile with a vintage feel, alongside products processed with repulsion, will also be showcased; likewise items with a specific finish during pre-bleaching for special dyed fabric, like Ohmi-sarashi.

Sustainability approaches include enhancing the manufacture of lawn fabrics using organic cotton, plain voile, fabrics with corded stripes and piqué effects alongside materials using recycled cotton.
