A textile business salon scheduled for Tokyo in May ! |
The Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFW) will organize a textile show; < Premium Textile Japan (PTJ) Spring/Summer 2020 > over two days; May 21-22, at the Tokyo International Forum (Hall E1). This occasion will feature a total of 94 exhibitors, 84 of which Japanese and ten from overseas, with six new applicants and six returnees respectively. |

We are pleased to introduce new exhibitors in this edition as follows: |
Company introduction - NEW EXHIBITORS - |
MUROTANI & CO., LTD. B-5
Targeting 100 new patterns |
MUROTANI & CO., LTD. is a trading company that specialises in and deals with supporting materials such as lining/interlining cloths and buttons and is based in Chuo Ward, Osaka City. It will be their first participation in PTJ, after some previous experience of exhibiting at ‘Fashion World Tokyo’. Although we are now greeting the new imperial era of ‘REIWA’, the company dates back to 1925 (the first year of the SHOWA era). Throughout this time, they have constantly expanded their business with domestic customers; apparel companies, department stores and trading companies, as well as establishing overseas hubs at Shanghai, Kunshan and Dalian in China, plus Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
They will be celebrating the centenary of their founding in 2025 and thus intend to create 100 original patterns for the upcoming event in a project that has been underway since June 2017. Among the 31 patterns already completed, five will be showcased at PTJ this time. These items can be dealt from 1 metre on stock sales while lining fabrics are produced in Fuji Yoshida as well as the Fukui textile region.
Outer materials using ‘SOLOTEX(R)’ and ‘FULFLAN(R)’ are also available on stock sales. Applying a high-grade bulky fibre-blending technology and placing SOLOTEX (PPT fibre) on the sheath side of the yarn allows a wool-like texture and sensitive heathered look to be expressed and processed in small batches, including made-to-measure orders.
They commented as follows: ‘We have visited and witnessed PTJ many times previously and would like to attempt showcasing garments using SOLOTEX(R) and FULFLAN(R) materials alongside fabrics.’ |
KUWAMURA CO., LTD. ‘LINGO’ B-82
Enhancing the brand appeal |
Although KUWAMURA CO., LTD. is acknowledged as a cotton yarn-dyed textile representing the BANSHU region, it also owns their filament-derived original brand; ‘LINGO’, which will be presented at PTJ for the first time on this occasion.
Currently 60 marks are on stock-sale as standard items comprising 100% polyester or nylon fabrics and/or blends of both. They will also be showcasing fabrics of optimal surface-feel, touch and texture on this occasion and fully optimising synthetic fibre. The scope will largely cover outerwear: jackets, pants and coats, which are ‘seasonless and unisex’; produced mainly in the Hokuriku and Hamamatsu regions and ranging in price from 1,000-1,500 yen/metre.
According to their comment; ‘Our objective in participating this time is not sales, but rather to promote our LINGO brand to more people. In other words, we consider it a presentational occasion.’ |
KYOYU CO., LTD. C-40
Cultivating new KANTO area customers |
A textile maker from Kyoto, KYOYU CO., LTD. will make its debut at PTJ. They made the decision to exhibit at the event in an attempt to cultivate new customers following a pause of the KYOTO SCOPE exhibition, in which they formerly participated. They specialise in products such as printed fabrics made by traditional hand screen printing techniques originating from Kyoto, alongside yarn-dyed knit jacquard textiles, all of which originally planned and designed by themselves. They have even launched a co-brand with WORLD entitled ‘CORORE’ in 2016.
Their yarn-dyed knit jacquard is produced at a collaborative factory in the YONEZAWA and BISHU regions and their main exhibits for spring/summer 2020 will comprise cotton and other items, most of which using natural fibres, according to the company. On this occasion, they will highlight various panel prints mainly in cotton.
To date, they have been supplying fabrics for high-end ladies’ wear to apparel companies in western and central Japan, including Nagoya. However, they emphasised: ‘since we have few customers in KANTO, we hope many apparel buyers will see our fabrics at the fair’. |
MORIKAWA LACE CO., LTD. C-51
Leveraging a world exclusive knitting machine |
MORIKAWA LACE CO., LTD. representing Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, has been showcasing lace/stole products at a gift show to date and is participating in PTJ for the first time.
Their knitting machines - not only for raschel but also jacquard - pave the way to produce richly expressive patterns. They possess a computer-control high-speed knitting machine, alongside Karl Mayer’s globally unique lace machine, ‘MR J41/1’, allowing larger patterns to be knitted for outerwear like one-piece dresses using lower count yarns, rather than inner lace.
They debuted in the Milano Unica (MU) fair last February, where they launched the ‘ANDANTE’ brand. This series, which used organic cotton, was acclaimed, thanks partly to what are increasingly popular ‘sustainability’ trends.
They have also been developing tweedy woven-like fabric without a transparent-feel but thin and light, which surprised on-site visitors. They will be showcasing fabric items that were popular among a total of 44 exhibits at the Milano Unica fair, alongside newly developed novelties - totalling over 50 items this time. |

The Premium Textile Japan (PTJ) was launched, targeting efforts to provide a business matching platform where top domestic and overseas buyers and suppliers converge. The fair has been widely acclaimed by buyers as an active, animated event, which has firmly established its presence.
By enhancing the venue environment for the fashion business and creativity, JFW will feature the true value of Japanese products made with high sensibility and quality, based on our original JFW textile trend perspective and targeting domestic and overseas markets. |
