JFW JAPAN CREATION 2019・Premium Textile Japan 2019Autumn/Winter

JJapan’s biggest total textile show; ‘JFW JAPAN CREATION 2019’ (JFW-JC) and the ‘Premium Textile Japan 2019 A/W’ (PTJ) salon, featuring strictly screened exhibitors and organized by JFW (Japan Fashion Week Organization), will be held concurrently at the Tokyo International Forum over two days: Nov. 21-22, 2018.

Tackling sustainability - Part 2

Amid the global fashion trend toward ‘sustainability’, more and more JFW-JC and PTJ exhibitors are addressing this area. We are pleased to highlight part of those exhibitors.

SHIMA SEIKI MFG., LTD. J-12

Promoting organic cotton

The < Total Fashion System > manufacturing concept, as proposed by SHIMA SEIKI MFG., LTD. makes digitalisation, mass customisation and sustainability a reality. Centring on the 3D design system < SDS-ONE APEX3 >, the system allows fluid interchange among all processes: planning, production and sales, by exchanging information while being closely involved, paving the way to < realise speedy, smart and environmentally friendly manufacturing and generating an industrial renaissance to spearhead success for our customers. >

The combined utilisation of the < SDS-ONE APEX3 > virtual sample and the cutting-edge < MACH2XS > WHOLE-GARMENT flat knitting machine will minimise yarn usage like never before, as well as allowing automation and/or mass customisation of the production system. Namely, it promotes efficient and sustainable manufacturing and helps you produce ‘idealistic knitwear’ that is environmentally friendly. This system will also revolutionise the entire apparel production system; shifting from the conventional labour-intensive approach to local production for local consumption and from mass production to mass customisation.

The company has acquired < ISO14001 > and continues activities including: collecting 100% of metal shavings found in the factory for reuse and tackling electric power reduction by 1% per year.

TORAY INDUSTRIES, INC. B-9

TORAY INDUSTRIES INC. has been progressing with activities under the < Green Innovation Business Project > as one of the company’s key commissions. Their ongoing challenge reflects their < Innovation by Chemistry > policy – to tackle global-scale environmental issues: climate change, depletion of natural resources, air pollution and water shortages – as part of a quest for solutions.

On this occasion at PTJ, they will showcase environmentally friendly materials reflecting such company policy, one of which is a fabric using polyester fibre and partially derived from plants. By utilising molasses - a by-product when extracting sugar from sugar cane – as part of the polymer, the fabric can contribute to the CO2 reduction effect. The other item is recycled fabric; leveraging recycled pet bottles and end materials/remainders in the film production process – as part of raw material.

Such attitudes exemplify the approach geared towards sustainable production.

SHINNAIGAI TEXTILE LTD. J-81

Committed to ‘natural materials’

< BOTANICALDYE > by SHIN NAIGAI TEXTILE LTD. is an eco-friendly mélange fabric using a natural dye extracted from plants, while < TAKEITO > is a blend of cotton and natural bamboo as-is; retaining the refreshing feel of bamboo alongside the gentle touch and warmth of cotton; all of which will be showcased at the JFW-JC fair this time.

Naigai Textile Co., Ltd.; the spinning subsidiary, has been striving to help promote the penetration of organic cotton – by using 1% of organic cotton for all produced cotton yarns. The company expects to ‘acquire new overseas/domestic customers and promote new products’ by participating in the fair.
