JFW JAPAN CREATION 2019・Premium Textile Japan 2019Autumn/Winter

Japan’s biggest total textile show; ‘JFW JAPAN CREATION 2019’ (JFW-JC) and the ‘Premium Textile Japan 2019 A/W’ (PTJ) salon, featuring strictly screened exhibitors and organized by JFW (Japan Fashion Week Organization), will be held concurrently at the Tokyo International Forum over two days: Nov. 21-22, 2018. On this occasion, JFW-JC will feature a total of 282 entries with 82 entries for PTJ. Last year saw the shows attract a total of 17,469 visitors (an increase of 7% over the previous year), paving the way for enthusiastic negotiations with exhibitors.

Tackling sustainability - Part 1

Amid the global fashion trend toward ‘sustainability’, more and more JFW-JC and PTJ exhibitors are addressing this area, particularly eco-related issues. We are pleased to highlight part of those exhibitors.

Promoting organic cotton

NUMAJIRI TEXTILE LABORATORY; selling domestic fabrics, most of which knit products to major overseas maisons, will continue their ongoing involvement with the PTJ fair. They deal in fabrics produced by their cooperative companies in Wakayama, Ichinomiya, Kiryu and Ashikaga regions and will showcase mainly organic cotton this time.

‘We import yarns to weave textiles, then apply a dyeing process before sale. Almost all the cotton we use is 100% organic; either provided as-is or subject to a dyeing process based on the customer’s request.’

They use American raw cotton; ‘trying to maintain awareness of the need to support sustainable production for producers with fair trade in mind.’ They have been dealing in organic cotton from some 12 - 13 years now: ‘We started handling it as eco-friendly cotton, regardless of the boom and the number of clients is steadily increasing’, anticipating apparel buyers as well as a variety-related category.

HOKKOH CO., LTD. A-49

HOKKOH CO., LTD. is also a repeat exhibitor at PTJ, having also participated in the ‘Japan Observatory’ at ‘Milano Unica Autumn/Winter 2019’, which was hosted in Milano, Italy in July. Showcased items included boa jacquard, using recycled fibre from PET plastic bottles, reflecting the theme of ‘sustainability’ at the venue.

On this occasion at PTJ, they will showcase ‘prints for materials and various goods centring on natural fibres that emit fewer toxic substance or less CO2 than synthetic fibres when incinerated.’ They also added: ‘We believe in the potential to reduce waste and thus lessen the burden on the environment by prioritizing fabrics and designs that are cherished and used long term.’

BON CO., LTD. A-5

Holder of OCS and OEKO-TEX certifications

BON CO., LTD. will be welcomed back to the PTJ as a repeat exhibitor, with a range including yarn-dyed fabrics using organic cotton. Besides OCS (The Organic Contest Standard), they have also acquired the ‘OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100’ certification for their yarn-dyed fabrics; promoting the safety and security of their textile products.

They have also installed an in-house solar power generation system to power the head office and weaving mills and underpin efforts to win new customers through such comprehensive attitudes to take on the sustainability issue.
