The Japan Pavilion includes three leading companies representing the Nishiwaki Region (Banshu): BON CO., LTD., UEYAMA ORIMONO Corp. and KUWAMURA CO., LTD.

Banshu-Ori (Banshu Weave) is a yarn-dyed fabric, woven into various patterns (checks, stripes etc.) with yarns that are dyed before being woven by weaving machines. Two centuries of Banshu-Ori history commenced back in 1792, (4, Kansei era/Edo Period), when a Nishiwaki city craftsman retrieved the technique of the Nishijin-Ori in Kyoto and combined it with the local Banshu approach to weaving. The Banshu-Ori unites the soft feel of natural fibre, mainly centring on cotton and the gentle texture of a dyeing technique that uses the clear water of the Banshu region. The Banshu-Ori has earned a high nationwide share as a producer of yarn-dyed products, particularly shirts, handkerchiefs and stoles.

BON CO., LTD. will showcase new and innovative products fully leveraging traditional techniques, such as organic cotton fabrics including botanical dyes, paper yarn fabrics, indigo items and selvage fabrics using shuttle looms alongside their own brand stoles.

UEYAMA ORIMONO Corp. will newly present fabrics, mainly natural yarns; cotton, cotton/linen and medium-thin yarn-dyed fabrics in a variety alongside textile using functional yarns. The UEYAMA Group plan/design its own fabrics in Tokyo and sell them worldwide by leveraging its sales network in Japan, Paris, LA and China to optimal effect thanks to Japan’s largest dyeing factory located in Nishiwaki.

KUWAMURA CO., LTD. provides the unique ‘Monozukuri’ of the Banshu textile production region, prioritising colours and hand feels in particular, with fabrics based on 100% yarn-dyed cotton as well as cotton and cotton-blend materials.

The matured Chinese market reveals a tendency to seek out products with abundant diversity and small batches that are a world away from the previous mass-production standard. We sincerely look forward to your visit at our Japan Pavilion, where Japanese suppliers offering high-quality fabrics with meticulous and on-time delivery service converge.
