The business negotiation salon, 'Premium Textile Japan' (PTJ) 2013 Spring/Summer edition, hosted by the Japan Fashion Week Organisation (JFW), was held from May 5-10, and ended successfully. This year, the relocation to Tokyo International Forum, located at Yurakucho, with an exhibition space of 2,000 sqm., was well received by exhibitors, as reflected in their comments: 'easier access - convenient'. In terms of scale, the show featured 62 participating exhibitors (incl. 6 from overseas) and 84 standard booths, attracting 4,500 visitors during the 2 day show, making it an overall success.

< Exhibitors' feedback > --- Continuation is key.

We also featured 2 exhibitors from regions affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake; SAIEI ORIMONO CO., LTD (Kawamata-cho, Fukushima Pref.) and NIHON HOMESPUN CO., LTD. (Hanamaki City, Iwate Pref.) Although neither of the 2 companies sustained direct damage from the earthquake, they have had to undergo disrupted lifelines and supply chain problems ever since. Since this year is the first of reconstruction, their motivation and expectations towards the PTJ fair were exceptionally high. ‘There was a ceaseless flow of visitors throughout the entire fair, partly thanks to the TV broadcasting and the fact that our 'ultra-superfine textile' won 'the Monozukuri Nippon Grand Award' organised by METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) in February this year, drastically boosting inquiries and sales, with nearly 500 inquiries in March alone. Consequently, this boosted the number of visitors coming to see the actual fabrics in person, directly on-site.'commented SAIEI ORIMONO CO., Ltd. excitedly.
'Although many customers were worried about our company after the earthquake, we could finally show them we are back and striving alright' said NIHON HOMESPUN Co., Ltd. They harness high planning and technical expertise to create unique tweeds from diversified raw materials with high creativity, and found PTJ the perfect platform to showcase their original products. They participated in the business matching programme continued from the previous show, and seemed to have sensed the emerging business achievement, emphasising the fact that 'continuous participation is essential' to achieving significant business results.'

Although Cloth Japan made its debut in the PTJ fair this time, they previously also participated in the 'JFW-JC' fair, and attained favourable results, commenting 'We expected business-oriented customers and achieved the targeted business results.’ Focusing on trendy items such as lace, prints, cut and sewn related fabrics this time, Kyowa Lace Co., Ltd. realised 'the use of lace is still in' and saw a non-stop flow of visitors to their booth. The participation of NIKKE (The Japan Wool Textile Co., Ltd.) was under the theme 'the most effective synergy' and saw them present their 'thorough and distinctive production system, from the global procurement of raw materials to spinning and processing/finishing, alongside a collaborative project with the ESMOD International fashion school, further promoting the company image.
'Many !' ---was the smiling response from a Thai textile maker, United Textile Mills, when asked about the number of visitors to their booth in 2 days. They showcased functional fabrics, knits and organic and recycled cotton. 'It gave us a very efficient business opportunity, and we could engage in discussion concerning quantities/batches and delivery time issues' - the verdict as they continued to evaluate the fair.
'Visitors came to touch and feel the fabrics at our booth' commented the exhibitor from Thailand, THAI NUM CHOKE TEXTILE, who showcased eco-fabrics made of fruit, herbs, ornamental foliage plants, and wild silkworm by their own dyeing techniques. Conversely, they decided to promote in the PTJ as buyers are usually nervous about quality and delivery time issues. Their booth, featuring a full display of original fabrics beside real raw materials/ingredients, boasted outstanding variety among all overseas exhibitors and was a particular magnet for visitors. They expect further expansion of their products and concluded 'We think we could contribute to upgrading the fabric value of ‘Made in Thailand'. |

< Visitors' feedback > --- Full of innovative ideas !

A positive comment was announced on-site by Mr. Akikazu Shimomura, Chairperson of the Japan Textile Federation: 'Above all, the effect of shifting to a city centre venue was enormous. I heard that the number of key decision makers who attended alongside the usual responsible staff, increased among the visitors this time. I equally noticed the improved standard of exhibitors after each show and rate the key programme organised by the PTJ, the business matching programme. We should not forget that Japanese exports overseas are constantly increasing, despite the strong yen, a sign of the Japanese textile industry recovery.’ Mr. Katsunosuke Maeda, Honorary President of Toray Industries Inc. also commented favourably having observed the fair, 'I especially appreciate the trend & index corner as it is very eye-catching yet simple and clear, to get an idea of overall trends. It is a very well done work.', while Mr. Tetsuya Watanabe, Director of the Creative Industries Division, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau of METI stated 'this fair is awash with abundant textile technologies alongside myriad creative ideas. These textiles are vital to our developmental operations in order to enforce the 'Cool Japan' strategy.' |
