INDEX[1]Message by Mr. Yoshiharu Kaihara,Chairperson, Textile Steering Committee, JFW

We are delighted to inform you that two shows were successfully held last year, despite the difficult circumstances following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. The 2011 shows organised by the JFW / Textile Division included the 1st Premium Textile Japan (PTJ) - 2012S/S in May, followed by the 2nd PTJ 2012 A/W concurrently held with JFW-JAPAN CREATION (JFW-JC) 2012, and also encompassed the ‘Intertextile SHANGHAI Apparel Fabrics 2011’; held in October as part of the program for the 'Japan Pavilion'. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of you, visitors and exhibitors, for your support and cooperation. We are proud to announce that despite the devastating disaster, Japan is continuing to cope positively with the recovery and will continue progressing!

In the current fiscal year 2012, we are pleased to announce our show programmes, namely PTJ2013S/S shows in May / PTJ2013A/W-JFW-JC2013 (concurrent events) in November / intertextile SHANGHAI apparel fabrics 2012 (participating in the Japan Pavilion) in October. To make the domestic shows more accessible, they will be located in the ‘TOKYO INTERNATIONAL FORUM’ in central Tokyo, a very convenient venue at which to welcome all of you.

< Restart with the Heart >

We, as Japanese, are questioned as to how we should further maintain human strength towards the future, facing earth-shaking, unprecedented disaster, and disrupting the basis of our lives. What are we capable of, under such circumstances? To be deeply immersed in something, to laugh or love, touch and cherish the beauty we encounter.

The earth is one.

All we can do is wish for a better tomorrow than today, by respecting our one and only Earth wholeheartedly. Let us step forward by restarting our lives for a better future. Love comforts us, while beauty heals us, nature, as power itself, revitalises us, whereas fashion functions as an essential, mental tranquilizer. Let us recharge our batteries by encountering beautiful, marvellous and pleasant elements--- for an ever-brighter future.

INDEX[4]GINZA FASHION WEEK - originating 'Japan Denim' -
In March, 'GINZA FASHION WEEK' was held in Ginza as a collaborative project between the top two longest-established department stores, 'MATSUYA GINZA' and 'GINZA MITSUKOSHI', turning entire floors denim-only, including garments, accessories such as hats, bags and shoes and even Japanese fashion items.

The main event was the so-called 'GINZA RUNWAY', which comprised a denim carpet 100m long, for which Ginza Chuo Dori was sealed off to traffic, and featuring a large-scale outdoor fashion show and approx. 200 fashion items.
The wide-ranging collections included highly popular brands, young creators with blossoming talent, sensitivity and spontaneity and children invited from areas affected by the Tohoku Earthquake and Ginza as fashion models. Although the denim carpet catwalk got wet with the last minute rain, it eventually cleared up as the show got underway, and the event was a great success.

Mr. Kaihara, provider of denim materials to this 'GINZA RUNWAY' event and Chairperson of Kaihara, Corporation, commented as follows. 'It all started from an advisory request by Mr. Nobuyuki Ota, Managing Director of MATSUYA GINZA, that 'Japan Denim' be better publicised among ordinary people/consumers in Japan, given its prominence and popularity among European luxury brands'. 'GINZA RUNWAY' was thus realised thanks to many major organisations such as METI (the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), Ginza Shopping Street, local police and fire stations, as well as the other ministries concerned. Co-organised by the top two premium department stores, 'MATSUYA GINZA' and 'GINZA MITSUKOSHI', it attracted great public attention. Organisers are positive in developing this event 'wishing to expand it using other related materials such as cotton and/or wool etc., following the catalyst of this initial denim show.'
