INDEX[1]Message
We would like to express our sincere appreciation for all your warm support extended to Japan.

Continuous restoration in north east region of Japan after the devastating earthquake is on steadily progress. Resolving works are being made at troubled nuclear plant in Fukushima located at a far distance of more than 200 kilometers north of Tokyo. Apart from unfounded rumor, life comes back to normal in Tokyo. No worry about what you eat and drink as all the food and drink distributed in Tokyo are strictly controlled to ensure complete safety. No worry about walking outside and breathing air as radiation levels in the atmosphere in Tokyo are keeping normal.

Please note that Japan's economy and finance systems are still strong even though there are downward trends due to the disaster. Fashion business as well is striving to provide people with dream, hope and joy of fashion.

Constantly sustaining awareness of the starting point. The time has come to launch an adventure, proclaiming the arrival of our new era.

>>> What is great about Japan textiles !    - Volume 1 -

Both the planning and selection of fabrics play a major role in fashion design, which could influence the product value itself. Creative designers even go as far as engaging in creating fabrics themselves, seeking out originality, or being inspired by the surface aspects and textures, or colours and patterns of fabrics. Fabrics, in a word, are an key factor in fashion.

−PROFILE−
She established the <SOMARTA> brand in 2006, releasing a bodywear line entitled <Skin> and reflecting the concept of ‘the potential of apparel for the body’, presenting her work in the Tokyo Collection. In 2007, she won the 25th Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix, Newcomer’s Prize and Shiseido Sponsorship Award. Besides apparel work, the scope of her activities has expanded to interior and installation fields, gaining acclaim in both domestic and overseas markets.

'My basic stance is that I would like to work with any textile from any country, provided it has strong appeal in terms of particularity, and among other countries, Japan has many original and unique home-grown textiles, I may say. In my case, I start by selecting fabrics for 80% of the collection, before proceeding to the design - inspiration process, half of which involves the creation of original fabrics developed through collaboration with fabric makers. Jacquard and prints in particular for example, are typical items which reflect my own taste and concept.
A high standard of printing and finishing techniques, experimental attempts, and finally the safe assurance and quality feel are certainly are present in Japanese textiles, which eventually stimulates me to take on challenges myself. I happen to discover new concepts of creation when visiting fabric production sites, which further educates me that Japan still has quite a few fabric makers working on their own interesting products with originality.'
