| Introducing the companies set to make their debuts at our JFW-JC Spring/Summer 2011 Fair. |
NUKUMORI KOUBOU LTD
[Revitalised touch and feel of the past]
They aim to protect the 'Enshu cotton tsumugi', the traditional textile woven in the western region of Shizuoka Prefecture, in collaboration with the young weavers. They target not only companies but also individual creators/artists as consumers, mainly via the Internet, transmitting informative news to them to promote the charm of the textile, led by a 30-year-old president alongside young employees.
Enshu cotton tsumugi, originally worn by common people as a kimono, is a yarn-dyed textile of narrow width, the production volume of which has been reduced to only a few weavers currently left to support the industry. The texture, however, has a retro-romantic warmth that is difficult to reproduce using the latest weaving machines. Although Enshu textiles used to be unpopular among seamstresses etc. due to the financial inefficiency of the narrow 36-42cm width, young entrepreneurs have recently began discovering and recognizing the merit of such small scale production, and thus enjoying the diversity of such varied production. The Enshu textile has been regenerated by young people into something appearing nostalgic to those in their 60s and something completely fresh and new for the younger generation.
Currently they are eager to create new woven textiles as trials for the coming JFW-JC fair in April, convinced that this Enshu cotton textile fits the sensibility of Japanese people, despite the limited usage due to its width, and also with the mission of enhancing the succession of the traditional textile: a piece of our heritage. |
TM TEXTILE CO.,LTD.
[Promoting the Originality of Fabrics and Prints]
The entire production, including prints as the primary focus, takes place in their dyeing factories in Kyoto. Relatively newly established as a company, with only 8 years of history, their strength lies in their sales tactics to meet detailed and meticulous demands by apparel companies, by dealing/using their original fabrics with elaborate finishes. They are thoroughly prepared to cope with all demands, using base materials for productions of any kinds of print patterns. Their special features include a technique to make cotton materials into something resembling polyester to the touch. They aim to appeal to overseas as well as domestic visitors in this, their debut appearance at the JFW Japan Creation show.
